Microsoft Teams New Security Updates in September 2025

We’ve all been there. You’re rushing through your inbox or catching up on Teams messages, and you click something you probably shouldn’t have. Maybe it was a dodgy-looking link or maybe it was a strange file. Either way, your heart sinks as you wonder what you’ve just clicked on. Well, Microsoft has some good news for the “click first, think later” crowd. Starting September 2025, Teams will get two new security updates that should make those little accidents far less risky.

What’s Changing?

  • Risky files are being blocked.
Teams will soon stop people from sending or opening certain dangerous file types like .exe files which are one of the easiest ways hackers spread malware.
  • Suspicious links will raise a red flag.
Teams chats and channels will scan links in real time and warn you if they look dodgy. Think of it as a seatbelt for your clicks.

Why Do Security Updates Matter?

Let’s be honest: mistakes happen. Whether it’s a new starter, a busy director, or just someone having an off day, clicking the wrong thing can happen to anyone. These new protections mean one careless click is far less likely to bring your whole business to a standstill. The best part? You don’t need to change a thing. These updates run quietly in the background. This update will just act as a new safety net which you didn’t have before.

Why Are Microsoft Updating Teams?

Microsoft isn’t just tinkering around the edges here. These changes are part of a bigger push to tighten up security across their whole ecosystem. From Outlook to Teams to Defender, everything is being geared towards making everyday work safer.

And while this is a solid step forward, it’s not the whole story. Strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, proper antivirus, and a bit of staff training still go a long way to keeping businesses protected and are more important than new security updates here and there.
